I always considered Roger to be my best friend I always enjoyed his presence whether it was going to school together or working together on the farm or construction site. He will be greatly missed. One of the best people you could ever meet. He was truly the person who would give you the shirt off his back. I am so sorry for your loss. John Lyon

Free Today I start a new race. I once again feel the stinging of the wind on my cheeks as the mud kicks up into my face. Listening to the percussion of horses hoofs once more for now I am free. I’m chasing cows through a field cursing them one by one as they break through the wire fences I routinely mend in the sun. Look up can you see me and all that I can see? I’m watching over you now for now I am free. I’m watching my old movies. Drinking Diet Coke and rye. Please don’t think of me with sadness. There is no reason to cry. Like the movie stars of old, the real men you see. I had to leave this life but now I am free. You can feel me dumpling. I’m holding your hand tight. My working hands and thick fingers pressed against your delicate skin with all my might. I will always be within reach. I will always be there for a cuddle. But all this medical mess it was getting me in a muddle. There is no more pain. The struggle is gone now you see and now I am myself again. Now I am free. Tonight I won’t be home for dinner. The boiled potatoes will go untouched. Tonight I eat cake and ice cream. I can’t promise I won’t eat too much. I’ll also have your chili, and your stew, my peanut butter on bread. I’ll still have our dinner conversations with you there is so much to be said. There was always so much love between you and me. Today I must move on though. I need to so I can be free.
