Dear family of Helen Galbraith,
Helen was my childhood friend. We kept in touch throughout the years. The last time I talked to her by telephone was on her recent birthday, August 13th, 2019. She told me why she was in care. Unfortunately Ray and I have been away, and only today, too late, I received Pauline's message. Please know that we shall be thinking of you and keeping all of you in our thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.
We played together before we entered school. Each of us had to walk through a neighbour's field to reach each other's house. Upon arrival, the mother would telephone the other mother to say that we had arrived safely.
We both attended the same schools for elementary and secondary education. When Helen had the accident with her leg I brought her homework for her and took her completed work back to Erin District High School.
I remember when she had her new bicycle she let me ride it down the mill hill in Cedar Valley. That was a mistake because I did not ride well, fell down, and still have the scar on my left leg from the gravel!
I have so many happy memories. We shared wedding showers and attended each other's wedding. Then we each have three daughters! We shared farm activities and so much more.
It is sad to now that she has died, but the suffering is ended, and for that, we give thanks.
Ray and Ellen Thomson
