Osborne, Robert (Bob) Alfred

With our deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Alfred Osborne. In his 91st year, he died peacefully at home with his wife of 58 years, Ferne Osborne by his side.
He was a loving and supportive father to Scott (Nicola) Osborne and Jan (Ken) Janisse, and took every chance at spoiling his grandkids, Peter and Erin Osborne whenever he could.
He is survived by his sister Phoebe Young and brother Bill (Joan) Osborne and predeceased by his siblings Rosie, Lloyd, Ed and Mildred. Also brother-in-law of Barbara and (late) Roy Leighton.
Bob was a dedicated Senior Corporal for the OPP with 32 years of service in North Bay, Temagami and Dufferin. He was also a proud Charter member of the Shelburne & District Lions Club for well over 50 years, with being a two-time Past District Governor during that period.
Born in Commanda, Ontario and raised in Golden Valley, he eventually made his way south and settled in Shelburne, where he raised his family, whom he treasured....cats included! His generous nature shined when he made sure to take each member of the family out for their special birthday dinner every year, at a restaurant of their choice – he loved eating out! Bob enjoyed traveling, whether it be for the Lions Club around the world or just on road trips to the grocery store. His humor and quick wit, made him very easy to talk to, whatever the situation. Bob will be missed by many.
A special “Thank you” to the Dufferin County Paramedic Services, Care Partners and Bridging the Gap for all their help through this difficult journey.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Lions Foundation of Canada – Dog Guides. Funeral arrangements are left in the care of Jack & Thompson Funeral Home in Shelburne. Due to COVID, we regret that there will be no service.

Ferne, please accept my condolences to your and your family. I had the honour of working with Bob at the Shelburne OPP Detachment. Bob was always kind and helpful. He was a great friend and colleague and cared very much about the community he served. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Ferne, You have been blessed with a fine partner. Though our times together have been few, everything I have known of him in the years since I first met him as your husband-to-be, has been of a wonderful, giving and caring man. My heart goes out to you in this time of loss. May strength of years of devotion be ever with you for comfort. Ruth (Hewitt) Sword.

One of the greatest experiences of my life as a Lion was to sit on the same Council with Bob, 1994-1995, Not only did we all seemed to bond well, but our ladies did as well, and Ferne was no exception. I remember the laughs we had in Phoenix, trying to get Charlie Bradshaw's wheelchair to that second floor restaurant. Sadly to say, after our year ended, we all went different ways and the 'family', as we called ourselves, never seemed to get together again. For that I am sadden. Bob was a good friend, a good husband and I know a good father. With his passing we, especially Ferne and his family, have lost a great one. Rest in peace old friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sending our deepest condolences to Ferne and family during the loss of Bob. Corporal Osborne "Ozzie" was the first employee at the OPP whom I met and was my teacher off the get go! He was so patient and kind, helping me learn the ropes and after each task, he would say, "There! That's done!" May the memories of this very community oriented and self serving guy hold dear in our hearts and make us smile with love and gratitude for having known him. RIP Ozzie!
